Senior judicial offices provide leadership to the courts and tribunals while preserving the independence of every judge and tribunal member in individual cases.
Chief Justice
The Chief Justice is the senior judicial office-holder. The office provides judicial leadership, safeguards judicial independence, supports the proper administration of justice and represents the Judiciary in appropriate constitutional relationships.
The Chief Justice does not exercise ministerial authority and cannot direct Parliament, Government policy, prosecution decisions or policing operations.
Senior President of Tribunals
The Senior President of Tribunals is the senior judicial office-holder for the tribunal system. The office leads tribunal development, deployment, independence, procedure working arrangements, training needs and tribunal records standards.
The Senior President is not a ministerial appeal officer and does not convert administrative complaints into tribunal cases.
